Gravel For The Love Of It Year Two Wrap -up

I resemble one of those crazy people who thinks that they can change the world.  Even though I believe that I am realistic enough to accept that I can only do so much.  Helen Keller said it best, "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much". Together we can change the world. Together we can make a difference. Together we can do great things.   I am convinced that if you give people an opportunity to help others they will rally, if you build it they will come.  They will definitely unite for children.

On January 7th, 2018, thirty+ cyclists gathered in the shivering cold to ride a distance of 13, 25, or 40 miles. The weatherman tried to scare me into canceling the event, but I refused. Everything was going to be fine.  The weather gods were good to us and the temps hit 40, the sun came out as the last riders finished.  My face hurt for hours after I got home, I could not stop smiling.  Kindness won today.  In a world full of darkness we created a bright light, a beacon. "There is not enough darkness in all the world to put out the light of even one small candle".

Arriving home that afternoon I made hot chocolate and gathered my thoughts.  It had been a successful day and everything went perfectly, just like last year.  Opening the bear shaped plastic cheese ball container I thought about who this money was going to benefit.  My heart smiled.  I replayed what Mr. Fay, Crossroads principal said before we left for the ride. He said," thank you for coming out and suffering a little for those who suffer a lot".  Those words really packed a punch and stayed with me throughout the day.

The world is now a better place.  On Wednesday I met with Mr Fay and handed him checks totaling $1408 dollars!  The Love Fund has grown and will continue to provide funds for children who need it.  School lunch, school field trips, and other essentials will now be covered because of your generosity.  Thank you!

Over the last two years we have raised $3408!  I couldn't be prouder to be part of such an amazing cycling community!  I appreciate all of you who shared this event, volunteered, and donated to the cause.  You rock!  Couldn't have done it without you!  Thank you!

Together we can do anything!
