Dirty Dozen at Dirty Kanza

This 2017 year is starting off with a BANG! Several new opportunities have come into my life and I want to share them with you.  They are each incredible and deserve their own separate blog post. Here is #1, they are in no particular order.  Stay tuned...

Shortly before Christmas I received an email from Dirty Kanza 200 promoter Jim Cummins.  I am always excited to open his emails, especially the ones that are addressed specifically to me.  He was wondering if I would be interested in being a member of the Dirty Dozen at Dirty Kanza for Lauf Forks.  Honestly, I had to Google Lauf Forks to see exactly what he was talking about.  As I researched I can across an article about Lael Wilcox rockin' a Lauf.  This article sold me.  Click this link for more info on the Lauf Grit. Watch the video too.  It's pretty cool.

In order to be a part of the Dirty Dozen, which is five men and seven women, I would need to replace my existing fork on my Salsa Warbird, train with the Lauf Grit, give my feedback, and ride it during the Dirty Kanza 200.  After confirming my spot on the team I spoke with my favorite mechanics at Big Shark West to prime them for the task. Stoke level was very high as we waited for Lauf to arrive.

Less than three weeks pass and the Grit is on my doorstep. This carbon fork comes in its own bag, snazzy.  As I lift the contents from the box I realize just how crazy light it is, it weighs in at 1.98 pounds.  I can't help but utter the word "ridiculous" and shake my head.  You have got to admit that is has a unique look to it and will definitely turn some heads.  I should keep track of how many times I hear, "What the heck is that"?

The fork was installed and my thoughtful mechanic sent me a photo of the finished product.  I was relieved.  It's hard for me to see my bike in pieces. The photo did not really give me a true feel for what it really looked like. I went in to work the next morning eager to see it in person.  The Lauf did not disappoint.

Wow!  It looks pretty cool and compliments my bike coloring nicely.   I immediately noticed that my 10th Anniversary DK200 stem cap had been replaced, it wouldn't work for this fork.  Bummer, I am going to miss that.

I have had one outdoor gravel ride on it and all I can say is that I giggled a lot and ended my ride thinking this might be the missing piece I have been looking for?  Could 2017 be the year to Beat The Sun??
